Primate Special Uganda

Special Offer: Primate Safari Uganda

This Primate Special combines the highlights of the country including exciting chimp walks, wildlife viewing and of course the unforgettable gorilla tracking. An ideal safari for those who do not have too much time for traveling or would like to combine it with a visit to Kenya, Tanzania or Zanzibar.

Arrival at Entebbe Airport where you will be welcomed by a Great Lakes Safaris representative and transferred to your accommodation in Entebbe. Overnight at Airport Guesthouse (B&B).

For upgrade you can stay at The Boma.

In the morning we will depart the capital city and head west to Fort Portal, with lunch en route. Fort Portal rests in the shadow of the fabled Mountains of the Moon and is famous for the many tea plantations. From this lovely town we will continue to Kibale National Park. In the evening we will join a night forest walk and go in search of the bush babies, pottos and other nocturnal animals. Dinner and overnight at Primate Lodge Kibale cottages.

For upgrade you can stay at the safari tents of Primate Lodge Kibale.

Today the forest opens its doors for a sensational chimp tracking. Kibale Forest is reputed for having the greatest variety and highest concentration of primates in East Africa. Enjoy a guided nature walk in the tropical rainforest in search of the wild chimpanzee, red-tailed monkey, black-and-white colobus monkey and many others.
After a hearty lunch we transfer to Bigodi Village for a totally different walk. Accompanied by a guide who can tell you everything about the traditional customs and lifestyle of the inhabitants, you will follow the village path and visit a primary school, Catholic church, traditional homesteads, learn about the crops and listen to the story telling of a Mzee (elderly man). This walk is an initiative of the inhabitants of Bigodi Village and the revenues are shared by the community. Dinner and overnight at Primate Lodge Kibale cottages.

For upgrade you can stay at the safari tents of Primate Lodge Kibale.

Note: instead of the chimp tracking and Bigodi Village Walk you can also opt for the Chimpanzee Habituation Experience. This project offers you the unique experience to join the ranger guides in their research program and spend an entire day with our ‘cousins’. You will watch the chimpanzees starting the day by climbing out of their nests and, while following their daily activities, learn more about their way of life and have them habituated to human presence.

After breakfast we calmly transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park while we pass the crater lakes area, a beautiful landscape with small lakes and rolling hills. Have lunch and relax before going on a game drive in search of the first wildlife, including warthogs, buffaloes, waterbucks and elephants. Dinner and overnight at Queen Elizabeth Bush Lodge.

For upgrade you can stay at Katara Lodge.

The day begins early when we start with a morning game drive and head to the mating ground of the Uganda Kobs. We search for lions, elephants, buffaloes and other wild animals in their natural habitat before returning for lunch. In the afternoon we take you on a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel, a natural channel between Lake Edward and Lake George. Thanks to the abundant birdlife that is sighted and the elephants, buffaloes and hundreds of hippos that are cooling off at the shores, this cruise will definitely be one of the highlights of your safari. Dinner and overnight at Queen Elizabeth Bush Lodge.

For upgrade you can stay at Katara Lodge.

Note: instead of the morning game drive you can opt for a visit to Kyambura Wildlife Reserve for a guided primate walk. Kyambura is a beautiful gorge completely covered with tropical rainforest. While following the river at the bottom, you will go in search of chimpanzees and other primates that live in this area.

After breakfast we head towards the south, passing the southern sector of the national park (if road conditions allow). This part is called Ishasha and is famous for the tree climbing lions. After a short game drive in this area we continue to Bwindi. While driving through a verdant countryside, you will pass traditional homesteads and enjoy panoramic views. In the afternoon, arrival in Bwindi National Park, home of the endangered mountain gorillas. Dinner and overnight at Buhoma Community Rest Camp.

For upgrade you can stay at Mahogany Springs.

Note: Buhoma Community Rest Camp is a basic accommodation run by the community members of Buhoma Village. All profits are shared with the local community. Alternatively, you may opt to overnight at Gorilla Conservation Camp. This accommodation, that features simple but spacious safari tents, is part of the Conservation Through Public Health and the camp fees support the project. During your stay a tour to the CTPH Gorilla Clinic is included.

The highlight of your safari: a meeting with the gentle giants of Bwindi! Expect to walk a long distance in steep and muddy conditions, sometimes with rain overhead, before you encounter any gorillas. But it will definitely be worthwhile as you observe them closely while they eat, play and rest. A unique and unforgettable experience! Dinner and overnight at Buhoma Community Rest Camp.

For upgrade you can stay at Mahogany Springs.

After breakfast we depart the impenetrable forest of Bwindi and head back toward the capital city. Look out for zebras and impalas as the road leads us through the protected area of Lake Mburo National Park and take some photos at the Ugandan equator. With lunch en route we will arrive in Entebbe in the evening. Overnight at Airport Guesthouse.

For upgrade you can stay at The Boma.

Enriched with an experience of a lifetime and unforgettable memories you will say goodbye to the Pearl of Africa. In time you will be transferred to Entebbe Airport for your international flight.(B)
